Sometimes it pays to shop, and this time, it pays for Girls On The Run, a charity that helps young girls live healthy lifestyles that is now on Hilton Head Island. Join us on Thursday night from 6-8pm at Louette Boutique as a portion of sales from the evening will go to this awesome charity.
What is Girls On The Run?
“Girls on the Run is a transformational physical activity based positive youth development program for girls in 3rd-8th grade. We teach life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games. The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5k running event. The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness.”

Coaching– Girls on the Run® is an empowerment program which weaves running with a character development curriculum that encourages preteen girls to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through running. Girls on the Run® of Coastal Georgia programs are delivered in the spring and fall each year. Our teams – each consisting of 20 girls – meet two times per week, usually right after school, for about an hour and a half and are led by a minimum of three trained coaches. Most teams begin meeting about 3:30 or 3:45 p.m. We provide thorough training for all coaches several times a year covering the logistics of the program, general tips about coaching, and the program’s curriculum. As Girls on the Run® is an international program, there is a well-developed curriculum which we follow that is designed to teach valuable life lessons to girls in third through eighth grades. Lessons include subjects such as emotional health, values, cooperation, and standing up for oneself. The program finishes with a celebration event that includes a 5k run/walk.

Program Running Buddy – The Running Buddy provides encouragement and support to the girls throughout the course of the season. Volunteers with Girls on the Run of Coastal Georgia DO NOT need to be elite runners! Any person who lives a healthy lifestyle and is willing to spend a few hours investing in developing a mentoring relationship can join our team of amazing volunteers. The Running Buddy acts as a personal cheerleader for the site participants by attending the practice 5k and the end of season 5k. The Running Buddy completes the 5k with their buddy and expresses support and enthusiasm for her accomplishment!
Join a Committee – Our Council has three planning committees that support the Coastal Georgia program through out the year with a commitment of several hours every month. Committees include the 5k Celebration Run, operations support, and fund development.
Just for the Day – This volunteer opportunity can be for just a few hours in a day or up to a few days, all scheduled at your convenience. They include:
- Data entry
- Jobs at our 5k Celebration Run in spring and late fall
- Snack sorting, etc.
If you are available but not sure where you fit in, let us know – we have a place for you!
